Contributor, Independence & Conflicts Policy

PRESS01 / INDEPENDENCE

Contributors must disclose material interests

Writers, editors and external contributors should disclose financial, professional, political, institutional or personal relationships that a reasonable reader could consider relevant to the subject.

Opinion and analysis

Signed opinion expresses the author’s analysis or viewpoint and is labelled separately from reported news. Opinion is still subject to standards concerning accuracy, defamation, privacy, attribution and evidence.

Gifts and inducements

Editorial decisions must not be exchanged for payment, gifts, travel, access or personal advantage. Necessary access arrangements should be disclosed when materially relevant.

Recusal

Where a conflict cannot be adequately managed through disclosure, the contributor or editor should not control the relevant publication decision.
